Full-Stack AI Development
Eight weeks from your first web page to a deployed AI app: HTML, CSS and JavaScript, React on the front end, Node.js, Express and MongoDB behind it, then AI coding tools, LLM APIs, a chatbot and an introduction to RAG. You finish by building, testing and deploying a full-stack AI application of your own, ready for your portfolio.

Week 1 ยท Web development fundamentals
What does this print?
console.log("5" + 3);Your teacher's hint: Look at the quotes. Is "5" a number or text?
When either side of + is text, JavaScript joins instead of adding, so you get "53". Number("5") + 3 gives 8. Every value typed into a web form arrives as text, which is why this catches everyone.
When does the button say "Saved"?
const btn = document.querySelector("#save");
btn.addEventListener("click", () => {
btn.textContent = "Saved";
});Your teacher's hint: The arrow function is handed over, not called. Who runs it, and when?
addEventListener keeps the function and the browser runs it on each click. Code that waits for the user like this is how every page you build here responds.
A student logs in to your app. Where should their password be checked?
Your teacher's hint: Anyone can open the browser's developer tools. What could they change there?
Everything in the browser can be read and edited by the user, so checks that matter run on the server. The database keeps only a hash, never the password itself. That split between front end, back end and database is what week one maps out.
You got 0 of 3 right.
All three right. In the room, your teacher would set you something harder next.
In the room, your teacher would go through what you missed with you before the next session. That's how marked work goes.

What you will cover
8 blocks, in this order
Each block is taught in the room, with work marked by hand and returned to you.
- Block 01
Web development fundamentals
HTML, CSS and JavaScript, how the front end, back end and database fit together in a full-stack app, and setting up your development tools and AI coding assistants.
- Block 02
Frontend development
React fundamentals: components, state, forms and routing, and fetching data from an API to build pages that update without a reload.
- Block 03
Backend development
Node.js and Express, designing and building a REST API, and authentication and security: hashing passwords, sessions and tokens, and protecting routes.
- Block 04
Database and full-stack integration
MongoDB and NoSQL fundamentals, designing a schema and CRUD operations, then connecting the React front end, the Express API and the database into one working app.
- Block 05
AI-assisted development
Using AI coding tools well: prompt engineering for code, generating, debugging and improving code with AI while checking what it writes, and calling LLM APIs from your own application.
- Block 06
AI-powered application development
Building an AI chatbot, keeping conversation history so it remembers context, and an introduction to document-based AI and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
- Block 07
Testing and deployment
Testing and debugging, securing an application before it goes live, and deploying the front end, back end and database so anyone can use it.
- Block 08
Final project
Build a complete AI-powered web application of your own, test it, deploy it and present it to the class. You leave with a live project for your portfolio.
